Cary Hatch

CEO of MDB Communications

With more than 35 years of experience in advertising and marketing communications, Cary Hatch, CEO of MDB Communications, has established a formidable track-record in business and consumer communications, both domestic and international. Her broad-based client experience includes National Geographic, Fannie Mae, Destination DC, DC Lottery, the International Spy Museum, Sprint, Newseum, Chevy Chase Trust, Roy Rogers Restaurants and many others.

Cary Hatch has been recognized by Washington Business Journal five times, on their POWER 100 list, as one of the region’s most influential business leaders, as well as the inaugural list of Women Who Mean Business (2004). She currently serves on the Government Relations Committee for the American Association of Advertising Agencies and is the Chairman of the Mid-Atlantic Board of Governors for the 4A’s. In December of 2018, she was appointed to the National Advertising Review Board. Additionally, Hatch is a trustee of the Federal City Council, a board member of the Greater Washington Board of Trade and the ($1.7B) University System of Maryland Foundation. Other recent board appointments include Year Up (NCR) and the Historical Society of Washington, DC. Cary is also a member of the Economic Club of Washington, DC.

Cary has also served on the boards of the International Women's Forum (Washington, DC) and Leadership Greater Washington, as well as serving on the Executive Committee of The Greater Washington Board of Trade. A member of the 2012 class of The Leadership Foundry, Cary has recently completed the National Association of Corporate Directors Professionalism Program.

Cary’s firm, MDB Communications, has been recognized by the US Chamber of Commerce as a Blue Chip Company. This is an annual recognition of a group of small businesses that are lauded for their persistence and commitment. The honorees are firms that demonstrate daily the attributes that are critical to business success and, more importantly, to individual growth.

Her firm has been an ardent advocate for regionalism and was instrumental in the Greater Washington Branding Initiative (the precursor to the Amazon HQ2 “race”) and provided communications support for the MetroNow Coalition, an effort to ensure that Metro — the backbone of Greater Washington’s transportation infrastructure — was on a safe, smart, and sustainable path.

Both Cary and MDB further their involvement in the community via pro bono support of HEROES, Inc., March of Dimes and the Girl Scouts of the Nation’s Capital. Cary’s recent emphasis has been as a board member of the newly launched Washington Housing Conservancy, a non-profit with a vision of increasing shared prosperity and combating displacement through the preservation and creation of workforce housing opportunities.
